Academic Building Window Replacment

Window Replacement Project

This project involved a full window replacement at an academic classroom building, with a strong emphasis on structural integrity, long-term durability, and improved ventilation for learning spaces. The renovation was carefully executed to address oversized window openings while delivering a clean, cohesive exterior appearance suitable for an institutional setting.

Project Overview

Each classroom in the building featured exceptionally large window openings that required a commercial-grade window system capable of handling size, weight, and long-term performance demands. The existing windows were outdated and no longer met the functional or efficiency needs of the facility.

To address these conditions, an all-aluminum commercial window system was selected for its structural strength, durability, and suitability for large-scale openings. Operable awning windows were incorporated at the lower portion of the assemblies to allow for natural ventilation while still providing protection during inclement weather.

Results and Benefits

  • Structurally robust window solution appropriate for large classroom openings

  • Improved natural ventilation through operable awning windows

  • Durable, low-maintenance aluminum window system ideal for institutional use

  • Clean, unified exterior appearance despite multi-unit window assemblies

  • Enhanced comfort and functionality for long-term building occupants

Scope of Work

  • Removal of existing windows across multiple classroom spaces

  • Supply of Quaker M600 Series all-aluminum commercial windows

  • Design coordination to support oversized window openings requiring enhanced structural performance

  • Installation of crank-out awning windows to provide fresh air ventilation, even during rainy conditions

  • Custom bending and fabrication of aluminum cladding to visually unify multiple window sections

  • Installation detailing to make three individual window units appear as a single, continuous assembly

Because of the scale of the openings, special attention was given to both structure and aesthetics. Custom aluminum cladding allowed the window assemblies to appear as one cohesive unit from the exterior, delivering a clean, modern look while maintaining commercial-grade performance.

Our History

1960's

John Mariotti Sr. was a partner in a builder’s supply company specializing in millwork. This company eventually liquidated, and some of the stock and machinery was moved into a local warehouse for Mariotti’s next business venture.

John and Ann Mariotti purchased a small lot at the corner of Lake Street and Gary Avenue in Roselle, Illinois, with a small home that was turned into a storefront named Woodland Lumber Company.

1970's

John Mariotti’s focus remained on selling millwork, but he began to supplement his income by selling firewood, weighed on a bathroom scale, and railroad ties, which were in great demand then. The Mariotti sons were an integral part of the business as they worked side by side with their father after school and during breaks.

When builders started asking John if he could supply windows along with millwork and doors for their projects, windows would be the next product available from Woodland.

1980's

By this time, Rano, Ralph, and Ken Mariotti had joined the Woodland team and their parents, John and Ann, as full-time employees. The “Little House with the Doors of Many Colors” at Gary and Lake soon became a popular source for windows and doors, offering high-quality installations to their customers in the Chicagoland area.

The Mariotti’s decided it was time to expand their product offerings to include many of the top-rated brands of windows and doors.

1990's

Woodland had far outgrown the original facilities, and the buildings were replaced with a 14,000-square-foot building to accommodate the growing company, including a 6,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art showroom. John and Ann Mariotti officially handed over the company’s management to their three sons, Rano, Ralph, and Ken Mariotti.

2000's

2000’s Woodland created four separate divisions: Homeowner, Homeowners Association, Commercial, and Contractor to serve the individual needs of our clients better.

In 2019, Woodland Windows & Doors celebrated its 50th anniversary. Today, the next generation of Mariotti has joined the company alongside their fathers and uncles. The company’s future looks bright, and in the words of John Mariotti, “if you take care of your customer, the customer will take care of you.” Taking care of customers is Woodland’s mission.

2024

To accommodate the company's growth, Woodland Windows & Doors has launched a 15,000-square-foot logistical hub in Hanover Park, consolidating logistics and our pre-finishing processes. This innovation enhances efficiency and quality, providing customers with a seamless experience.
