Marvin windows come in different operating styles, frame materials, and levels of customization. A homeowner replacing traditional double-hung windows may have very different priorities than someone planning large areas of glass for a renovation. The architecture of the house, interior finish preferences, maintenance expectations, and how each window needs to function can all shape the decision.

Marvin currently offers five collections: Ultimate,
Modern, Vivid, Elevate, and Essential. Each has its own material construction, design approach, and selection of window styles. Understanding those differences can make it easier to narrow your choices and find windows suited to your home and project goals.

Explore Marvin Window Styles

Window style affects ventilation, operation, views, and how a window fits the architecture of the home. It can also narrow your collection choices since not every Marvin collection offers every operating style.

Double-Hung and Single-Hung Windows

Double-hung windows have two movable sashes, allowing the upper and lower portions to open. Single-hung windows have a movable lower sash while the upper sash remains fixed.

These styles are common choices for traditional homes and spaces where homeowners want the familiar appearance of vertically operating windows. Marvin currently offers double-hung options in the Ultimate and Elevate collections. Single-hung options are available in select Marvin collections.

For replacement projects, existing window proportions and exterior sightlines can help determine if a hung window remains the right choice or if another operating style would work better.

Casement Windows

Casement windows are hinged at the side and open outward using a crank or handle. When open, the sash can catch passing breezes and direct fresh air into the room.

Their operating hardware can make them practical in spots where lifting a hung sash would be awkward, such as above a kitchen counter. Casements also suit homeowners who want ventilation while keeping the glass area relatively open and unobstructed.

Casement windows are available across several Marvin collections. Sizes, materials, frame profiles, and design choices vary depending on the collection.

Awning Windows

Awning windows are hinged at the top and open outward from the bottom. Their compact operating style makes them useful in spaces where ventilation is wanted without taking up much wall area.

They can work well higher on a wall or paired with larger fixed windows. This combination brings fresh air into the room while preserving a broad area of glass for daylight and views.

Awning windows are available in several Marvin collections, including configurations suited to contemporary and traditional home designs.

Sliding Windows

Sliding windows, also called gliders, open horizontally along a track. They can be a practical choice when there is limited space outside the window for an outward-opening sash.

Their horizontal proportions often work well in wider openings, including bedrooms and living areas. Operation is straightforward since the sash moves side to side rather than lifting vertically or swinging outward.

Marvin glider options vary across its collections, so the desired size, material, and configuration can help narrow the choices.

Explore Marvin Window Material Options

Frame material affects appearance, maintenance, and the way a window responds to changing temperatures. Marvin uses several materials across its collections, sometimes pairing different interior and exterior materials in the same window.

Material Used in Marvin Windows Why Homeowners Consider It
Wood Interior and select exterior applications Natural grain, warm appearance, and several finish choices
Ultrex Fiberglass Interior or exterior, depending on the collection Low maintenance, dimensional stability, and resistance to expanding and contracting
Fiberglass-Reinforced Composite Vivid interiors Durable, low-maintenance surface suited to clean profiles
High-Density Fiberglass Modern exteriors Strength that supports narrow frames and large glass areas
Extruded Aluminum Ultimate exteriors and Modern interiors Durable finish and broad color possibilities

Wood Windows: Features and Benefits

Wood brings natural grain and warmth to the interior of a home, making it a good fit when window finishes need to coordinate with trim, cabinetry, or other architectural details. Marvin uses wood in the Ultimate collection and on the interior of Elevate windows, where it is paired with an Ultrex fiberglass exterior.

Fiberglass Windows: Features and Benefits

Fiberglass provides strength, dimensional stability, and relatively low maintenance. Marvin uses fiberglass-based materials across several collections, including Ultrex fiberglass in Elevate, Essential, and Vivid, plus high-density fiberglass on Modern exteriors. The specific construction varies between collections, so homeowners should compare where fiberglass is used and what material appears inside the home.

Extruded Aluminum Windows: Features and Benefits

Extruded aluminum provides a durable exterior surface and allows for a broad selection of finishes. Marvin uses extruded aluminum cladding on many Ultimate windows, while the Modern collection pairs extruded aluminum interiors with high-density fiberglass exteriors.

Marvin’s five collections differ in materials, design direction, available window styles, and level of customization. Rather than treating them as a simple price ladder, it helps to compare each collection according to the priorities of the project.

Marvin Collection Interior Material Exterior Material Design Focus
Ultimate Wood Wood or extruded aluminum clad Architectural detail and extensive customization
Modern Extruded aluminum High-density fiberglass Minimal profiles and contemporary architecture
Vivid Fiberglass-reinforced composite Ultrex fiberglass Large glass areas and transitional or contemporary design
Elevate Wood Ultrex fiberglass Wood interiors paired with a low-maintenance exterior
Essential Ultrex fiberglass Ultrex fiberglass Streamlined design and low-maintenance construction
